Just finished rereading The Fountainhead. I really like that book.

Hi Alex,

When did you go blond?
What do you like about the Fountainhead? Rand is quite the genius at creating her characters. They still leave an impression-- and I read that book 17 years ago.

I was thinking about Tucson a lot today, and wound-up googling an art gallery that used to be in Texas Canyon. (Cochise's grandson is a world class painter, anyway, the googling landed me in my old live journal.

And now I'm writing to you in Tucson. How's the weather?

I went blond at the beggining of summer, finally got rid of it a month ago. I was going for the surfer look.

As far as the Fountainhead goes, I really like the rejection of what is taught to us from birth (live for thy brother) and holding up the fact that it is proper to live for one's own self, because selfishness is about making yourself happy not about taking anything away from others.
The characters tend to be a bit wooden and mostly unyealding in her books. They are archtypes, while they can provide a great standard to live up to, they are about as possible in this world as antimatter in our universe.

You have me thinking of the Bush-Cheney administration.... and I feel that real life has been about as unrealistic as I'd dare imagine it to get.

I just really liked Toohey. Evil, that one.
